FIOE: We Strongly Condemn the Terrorist Attack on Quebec City Mosque. Targeting Peaceful Sanctuary-Goers is a Violation of All Human Values
It is with deep sadness and sorrow that the Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe (FIOE), heard of the terror attack perpetrated on Monday (30 January 2017), against the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Centre, in the Sainte-Foy neighbourhood, Canada, where 6 innocent persons were killed, around 10 injured, and other peaceful mosque-goers were intimidated.
FIOE denounces this terrorist attack in the strongest terms possible, and condemns its base motives that violate the human lives, and attempt to spread hatred by desecrating the houses of worship, which would leave a significant range of citizens emotionally agitated. In the same context, FIOE calls upon all components of the Canadian society to stand united against discrimination of any kind as to race or religion in a country, which is well-known of its public culture of tolerance. Additionally, FIOE stresses the importance of defending social stability, cohesion, and protecting fundamental human values in order to face such growing despicable attacks against the entire society.
We, as FIOE, value the balanced and responsible approach of the Canadian government on such heinous assault and its repercussions. Certainly, FIOE affirms its solidarity with the Canadian people, especially with the Muslims of Quebec City and other areas, in this time of sorrow, conveys deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the innocent victims, shares thoughts with them in their devastating loss, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
