The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe (FIOE) applauds the Berlin demonstration against extremism and racism
The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe welcomes the principled positions expressed by Chancellor Angela Merkel and her government, as well as prominent religious and political leaders in the Federal Republic of Germany, in reinforcing social cohesion, rejecting extremism, and confronting racism that is hostile to Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
The demonstration witnessed in Berlin on Tuesday night, sent a clear message from the constituents of German society of the necessity to strengthen unity and cohesion in the face of diverse forms of extremism and hate, regardless of source.
The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe urges European societies with their diverse constituents to join together, and deny those attempting to drive a wedge between them, and spread hate and animosity, from exploiting the opportunity to do so.
Furthermore, political and religious leaders, civil society, intellectual, cultural, and artistic personalities, as well as the media, are all required to exert more effort to safeguard human rights, fundamental liberties, and the principles of social peace, mutual respect, and equality, as well as the rejection of racism and hate.
