The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe follows with concern the attacks in Nigeria, and the continuing predicament of the abducted schoolgirls

The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe follows with grave concern the bloody attacks witnessed in Nigeria, in addition to the continuing abduction of hundreds of schoolgirls from a school in North-Eastern Nigeria.

The Federation as it expresses its concern for these tragic developments, and renews its condemnation of the continuing abduction that took place in Chibok, Borno State in Nigeria, in contravention of Islamic teachings, moral obligations, and humanitarian principles, calls for an end to violence, as well as the release of the schoolgirls, with guarantees for their safety, and an immediate and unconditional end to this grave suffering, while respecting the stipulations of the right to education, and the safety of the civilian population.

The Federation and its member organisations convey the heartfelt solidarity of the Muslim public in Europe with local communities in Nigeria, and especially, the abducted schoolgirls and their relatives. Furthermore, the Federation deplores the use of Islamic slogans and expressions while committing these grave violations that are fundamentally forbidden by Islam.

No doubt that this continuing tragedy draws attention to the need for addressing the economic and social conditions that breed extremism and violence, while ensuring justice, fair sharing of resources, equal opportunities, and securing a life of dignity, with education and awareness for the general population.
